WILL WANTED:

NEUTRAL TONES TO MATCH HIS INTERIOR DESIGN COMPANY’S BRANDING

A WARM, CLEAN AESTHETIC ON
A SOLID-COLOR BACKDROP

STUDIO HEADSHOTS WITH MOODIER LIGHTING AND AN EDITORIAL FEEL

the plan

Since Will knew he wanted studio headshots instead of onsite headshots at one of the properties he’d worked on, our first step was booking time at a rental photography studio space in Kansas City.

From there, we worked out the aesthetics of the photo session. We chose a solid beige seamless paper backdrop and planned to use some of the studio’s furniture for posing and to create some variety in Will’s photos.

BTW

Booking a studio session — whether it’s branding photography or a lifestyle session for families, graduating seniors, or couples — is always an option, no matter where you’re located!

the shoot

Besides the neutral color palette and clean aesthetic, Will’s top request for his personal branding photos was an editorial feel, like something out of a magazine.

To achieve this look, I focused on lighting. I love a bright natural-light studio just as much as any other photographer, but for Will’s session, we turned away from the windows. I mapped out a lighting setup and brought my equipment along and created a well-lit scene with the perfect amount of shadow for definition and a bit of moodiness.

the testimonial

“As an interior designer seeking creative headshots, Annie Bolin impressed! She flawlessly translated my specific vision (including reference photos and lighting preferences) into editorial-style images. While I typically find myself feeling less than comfortable in front of the camera, her guidance and positive energy made the shoot enjoyable. The final photos are everything I wanted – a true reflection of my design and headshots that showcase my personality and brand – highly recommend!”
